What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is any pain that you have been experiencing for 3 months or more. This includes consistent pain or pain that has come and gone for 3 months or more.

When a pain moves from the acute phase to the chronic phase, your body starts to form compensations in order to keep you safe from the pain. This means other muscles in your body will work harder in order to help the painful site. This can cause imbalances, fear, lack of confidence in your body, withdrawal from life, loss of independence, etc.

Our pain education is designed to help you understand your pain so that you can stop fearing it and finally make some progress.

The More You Know

When you understand your pain, it has less power over you. Think about a child stubbing their toe for the first time. They cry, scream, acting as if they broke a bone. Why? Because they haven't experienced that pain before and they don't know what will come next. To them, their arm might as well have been broken. They have not been exposed to that event enough times to know that they will, in fact, survive it.

Your pain works the same way. Your body freaks out initially because it's job is to keep you safe. It sets off alarm bells so that you don't continuously put yourself in positions that will cause you harm. However, that system can begin to send faulty alarm bells if you let fear take hold. If you fear the pain, if you build it up in your head and start having anxiety from the mere anticipation of pain, your pain barometer has broken.

What combats this fear? Knowledge. The more you know and understand your pain, the more in control you will feel. The more you see what is in your control, the more likely you are to take the necessary steps to get out of pain altogether.

This is why we put together this course. It is designed for those experiencing chronic pain, who want to learn what to do about it. If you want to start learning and take back control, click the button below.
